Camp ArtReach Workshops

Disciplines of Camp ArtReach - The Summer Adventure include: Music, Visual Arts, Dance, Storytelling, and Theater.

Dance

CB Hip Hop
Starting with a warm up and stretching to prepare the body for dancing, students will learn a combination of steps to current Hip Hop music.

Rix Style Hip Hop
Students will learn basic hip-hop techniques and routines, with an introduction to “breaking” just for kids! In addition to the dance, acting will be added to turn their dance into a story. With moves like the “moon walk”, “body wave”, and many more, students will learn an original dance routine to their favorite music with an opportunity to perform a mini-production for fellow students and teachers at the end of the workshop!

Urban Dances from Around the World
An introduction to dances from around the world from Hip Hop to Samba. Background and cultural information on the dances will be studied in addition to the movements.

Music

African/Latin Drumming
An introduction to history of drums will precede the “hands-on” activities in this workshop. Students will learn the “Drum Alphabet,” patterns, and then how these patterns are phrased. With basic hand techniques and the understanding of how to apply the sounds students will use their skills in an ensemble setting. The class will focus on traditional rhythms and will culminate with a performance for families and friends.

Drumming and Movement
The class will focus on traditional rhythms of the drums and will add in basic steps and movements of hip-hop techniques and routines. What a great way to incorporate other movements learned over the summer!

Storytelling

Fantasy Creatures, From Dinosaurs to Fairy Tales!
This hands on workshop series will have students making creatures from a myth they create themselves! They will perform a group fairytale with the other children in the class.

Storytelling Made Fun
In this innovative and unique workshop students will explore their own ancestor and family roots. Campers will read and act out fun tales such as Snow White, Cinderella and Lion King. Each student will be able to make and display their own storytelling board and a mask of their favorite story time character.

Theatre

Auditioning Workshop for Up and Coming Actors
The techniques learned in this workshop are fun for children who want to learn to audition for plays or musicals; or just need a boost in skills to build their self esteem and confidence on stage or when speaking in front of a group.

Clowning
This multi-session class teaches various skills including juggling, balloons, make-up, gags, and walk around routines. It’s a great chance for participants to discover that clowning involves studying skills and developing their own clown character in addition to just costume and make-up.

Improv Workshop
Whether it is learning to improvise during a play or comedy routine, students will learn to successfully identify and take cues from other actors and comedians during a performance through improve games and skits.

Visual Arts

Artistic Paper
This class teaches unique and different techniques of working with paper.  Did you know it is possible to draw with scissors?

Beginning Acrylic Painting
From A-Z students will learn the steps of creating with acrylic paints and be able to bring home their own masterpiece on canvass.

Beginning Drawing
Through basic drawing techniques students will have fun drawing in their sketchbook and will be able to continue long after the class is through.

Cartoon Fun
Enter the world of cartooning through a variety of fun projects that include flipbooks, caricatures, comic jokes, cartoon games, and more!

Clay Extravaganza
You name it—you can make it with clay.  This class will enhance your student’s creativity and imagination with the items they can create!!! 

Fabric Art
Students will design with their wild array of paint, pencil, pastel, and embroidery colors.  Each child’s individuality shines through their choices of materials in their individual pillows.

Ginormous Masks
Students will create huge masks based on traditional designs from around the world using their imagination. The masks will then be used to present a Ginormous mask carnival.

Masks, Masks, Masks
By using a variety of materials and mediums, the students will create their own masks based on masks from various cultures.

Mixed Media
Every child will discover their inner artist through this all-encompassing class focusing on many mediums from acrylic paint to watercolor to collage.  Students will determine which is their favorite!

Sculpture
By using various materials students will create their own piece that really speaks to their personality. 

Working with Yarn
Have you ever wondered about all the amazing creations you can make from yarn? This class will teach you that yarn is not just for knitting anymore.
